This morning I listened in on a men’s prayer call. Yes, a call for all men. Where they listen to and talk about being a Christian. This post is not to tell you about the call, but rather the information shared on the call. Also, it is okay for others to listen in on the call, ie women (like myself); including wives.
“Don’t let the devil talk to you more than you talk to you…” this is in regards to encouraging self and speaking over self. Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Ephesians 6:10 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
“Is omnipotence in you? Yes.” Because God is in you, God is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. Now we are not really omnipresent unless the Lord has chosen to reveal something to us as it is happening. I have not heard of this happening, but it is possible. For with God, all things are possible.
In Him we live, move and have our being.
Today’s Talk: Condition of Our Minds
“…restless mind is not of God. The Christian mind is one that is able to discipline its thought, we have this ability.” In other words, we as Christians have the ability to discipline our thoughts.
The old is gone, the new has come (2 Cor. 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”). “Does our thought life fully line up with scripture?”
“The Christian life is a journey, not a destination.”
Having a renewed mind is done by prayer – prayer is not the only thing that can be done. God promises to do something. Hebrews 13:5 is an unconditional promise. (Hebrews 13:5 “Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.””)
(Conditional VS Unconditional Promises of God. Unconditional promises are promises where God is going to do something for us without us doing anything to receive it. Example given is Romans 12:2. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Our part is to not be conformed to this world.)
When we take our mind out of the culture and the ways of the world God will reveal…
If we don’t conform to the ways of this world, then our minds are able to be transformed.
Theme: for us to change; we have to take action. We have to take an action step. This is something we have to do, this is our responsibility. The next three scriptures are used to show that we have to take an action step.
“I beseech[a] you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your [b]reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:1, 2 Our action is to present our bodies as a living sacrifice to God and to not be conformed to this world, then to transform our mind by how we speak about ourselves and what we say.
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:8, 9 Key words for this verse: meditate on these things, these things which you learned, received and saw in me these do AND the God of peace will be with you.
“Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,” Hebrews 3:1 This verse is not straightforward as the first two, but the point here is to fix our eyes on Jesus. To practice fixing our eyes on Jesus.
On God’s End (What God does when it comes to fulfilling the promise)
2 Timothy 1:7. God gives us three gifts. Power, love, and self-discipline(sound mind in some versions). If the spirit is of fear we know it is from the enemy, not from God. Gift 1. Self-discipline
John 16:13 (back up scripture) discerning the truth is very important. The Holy Spirit is going to guide us. Guidance. We have to be willing to take the truth and utilize it. The Holy Spirit tells us the truth. We have to be seeking truth – actively. Gift 2. Guidance from the Holy Spirit.
God brings us from dark mindedness to light mindedness. “God’s word is the light for us.” “The word of God shows us God’s way of thinking.” How can we expect to have the mind of Christ if we are not reading His very word.
The Bible helps us to renew our mind. God gives generously to those who ask for wisdom. He Gives. Generously! All we have to do is ask. We can ask for wisdom in having a good marriage, wisdom in raising children, wisdom in how to minister to others, there are so many things to ask God for when it comes to wisdom.
Four Parts on Our End
- We need to study and we need to learn to think like God thinks. The goal is to have the mind of Christ. [ Think like God thinks. God will not do our part.]
- We have to be mindful of what we are feeding our minds. This is a daily task, a daily thing. Porn feeds the lust of the flesh. This (porn) is what one would think about during the day. This destroys marriages. What are we feeding our spirits? An example was given about how we feed our body. What are we feeding out body? The culture throws stuff at us via billboards. [Main point: Guard our heart.]
- Have a glass full mindset. Find the best in every situation. Philippians 4:8, 9. We do our part by thinking the right way and God does His part( the God of peace will be with you (Verse 9)). [Have a positive outlook.]
- Recognize. Recognize when you are making progress. We have to be intentional about how we speak. We have the ability to speak death and or to speak life (death and life are in the power of the tongue). If we speak well, we receive the benefit of speaking well. [Speaker reminds himself that he is forgiven. 1 John 1:9. He says it on a consistent basis to reinforce his thinking. He also does this with Romans 12: 1, 2, “I am not conformed to the way of this world.” Use the word of God about whatever you are dealing with or going through.
Speak renewal. Proverbs 23:7, as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Always remember that we as Christian men are always on God’s mind. Supernatural man serving a supernatural God.
Doubting mind – is the enemy shooting darts at you? A doubting mind is of the enemy, he is shooting doubts. Fear we know comes from the enemy. Pre-conditioned thoughts will help us. Man of God must become a trained thinker. It helps us to have things already prepared in our mind. If our mind is conditioned we would be able to handle seeing things that tempt us. An example is the corporate office space. During these hot summer days the company allows women to sort of dress down, for men it can be a struggle. Yet, if their mind is conditioned in regards to women and how they view or see their body then this would not be a temptation for them.
There is a device. Something that is used to zap flies or mosquitos. You plug it in, a light comes on in the center, flies gravitate to the light, once the are close enough, they get ZAPPED! We need to have our mind as this device. Or we should have the Zapper over our mind so the thoughts of the enemy can be ZAPPED as soon as they come. THIS is the helmet of salvation.
God’s plan is always going to go forward. God is God
That’s it readers. All my notes plus some from todays men’s prayer call.
