Hair Products

I have not posted about my hair in a while so I’ve decided to share some of the products I’ve been using and some that I’m trying out. As I said in my first post about my hair –  it is natural. I’ve decided to let my hair grow out in its natural texture without any chemicals. Actually it was not really a decision…I just kind of stopped perming my hair due to certain things going on in my life…I’ll just leave it at that for now.

Anyway here are the products that I currently use:
Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Mask – Shea Moisture Established in 1912

I bought this at Target. First of all this masque smells wonderful. Plus my hair reacts to it nicely and it last longer that the other products I used when I started wearing my hair naturally. Ever since I started using this product my hair has been feeling a lot softer than before. I will be buying this again(I already bought it twice :D)

Organic Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie also made by Shea Moisture

Just like the above product I bought this at Target and it smells great. The only problem is I really do not like the way my hair reacts to this product alone. I have to keep experimenting with it, maybe use it to style on dry hair or add some oil or water  to get a better result than using this product by itself.

Garnier Fructis Leave-In conditioning Cream

Available at most beauty supply stores, drug stores. I bought this when I was in search for a leave – in conditioner to use when I wanted to just wash my hair and go about my business. Leaves my hair dry unless I add some shea butter oil while styling or oil sheen spray after styling. This leave-in conditioner does smell good, but I won’t be buying this again.

Coconut Milk Conditioner – Organix

Smells fantastic! I use this to deep condition. I try to use it sparingly because it’s expensive(The last time I bought this product it was on sale for $7.99 for 2 bottles). It leaves my hair extremely soft and even more manageable (typical result of deep conditioning) even when I don’t deep condition my hair for hours. I will be buying this product again. It is distributed by Vogue International and for more information on this product you can go to beautypureandsimple DOT com

Herbal Essences long-term relationship Shampoo

I originally bought this product because it said it will strengthen my hair against split ends and breakage. I’m not sure if that’s true but this product smells good and it is less harsh than the TRESemme Shampoo. I used to use TRESemme shampoo but I don’t anymore; because it always leaves my hear feeling so stringy. Basically I learned (through some internet reading) that some shampoos contain ingredients that promote drying and damage to hair; in my own opinion Tresemme is one of the products that contain those harsh ingredients (names that I don’t remember off the top of my head). Herbal essences contains one or more of the same ingredients as TRESemme, but the effect from Herbal essences on my hair is less harsh than TRESemme. If you want more information on these harsh ingredients you can go to a link in my blog roll, the site is Newly natural.

Herbal Essences products are so pretty, lol, just had to say it. Who ever designed the bottles did a great job.

Suave Professionals Almond & Shea Butter Conditioner

I’ve been using Suave conditioners on and off. More specifically the Tropical Coconut conditioner and recently this Almond & shea butter kind. Suave has given me the same constant results. It leaves my hair soft every time I use it. I think I will be sticking with the Almond and Shea butter conditioner rather than going back to coconut.

So I know this list is long and is filled with a lot of products but I’ve been  experimenting to see what product my hair likes most. Now that I’m getting a general idea of how my hair reacts to these products I know what to buy again and what not to buy again.

Definitely will buy again:

Organic Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Mask,

Suave Professionals Almond and Shea Butter Conditioner,

I hope this information will be useful for you . 🙂

Curlformers Experience

I don’t want this post to be counterintuitive with the other information available on YouTube, and other blogs, So I will just share my opinion on the product and some pictures.

This is how the package looks

“preview” How it should/can look while setting.

The Truth: This is not comfortable to sleep in, so I will not be  setting my hair frequently with this product. Out of all the videos I watched and the blogs I read about curlformers, I don’t remember anyone mentioning that sleeping with Curlformers in your hair will be uncomfortable. So I’ll make sure it is said: Sleeping with Curlformers is UNCOMFORTABLE.

Buuut I must say it was worth it, tell me what’cha think…

Here's the top of my head. Pretty neat. Here's the back of my head. I had to fluff the back out a little bit, to show more volume. The side. Another picture of the results.

Last Picture

The results came out better than I expected them to. The product itself is easy to use. So although they are a pain to sleep in, I will be using Curlformers again.( …just won’t be sleeping in them). For the whole set the price I paid was – $60.00.  In a way it was worth paying that amount because I won’t be the only person in my household using this product(long story short, there is a professional hair dresser in the household-that is not me). Plus if there is any hair product(oils/creams/gels) build up the spiral pieces can be washed(I’m thinking in warm soapy water).

New Categories Are Coming!

Hello everyone I hope you’re all having a wonderful summer.

I’ve been thinking about adding two new categories to blog about. The first one would be about books that I’ve recently read. Basically it will be me discussing what I liked or did not like about a book that I’ve read or am currently reading. A book review.

The second category will be about natural curly/coily hair. That is the natural texture of my hair. I’ve been reading other blogs(listed in my blogroll) and watching YouTube videos about natural curly/coily(cc) hair, after all my hair is also naturally cc. It feels good to be able to finally relate to others about caring and styling my hair.  Reading these blogs and watching the YouTube videos even give me support when I don’t have it from my family or friends, it reassures  me that there is nothing wrong with the hair I was born with, even if others believe differently.

So I’ve finally decided to join the natural hair online community and offer my experience on having a non lye, texture treated, relaxed  head of hair. That sounds a bit defensive and rough, so nothing to or against those who have perms or texture treatments 🙂 I permed my hair for a few years before I decided to go natural, I am just excited about this, having more support and being able to relate to others about my hair – it’s exciting! 😀

So be on the look out for book reviews, posts about my natural hair( and possibly yours) AND for pictures for both the book reviews and my hair.

Thanks for reading
